Poems for Nothing
Mike’s Dream
I woke up briefly in the middle of the night
Thirsty, restless, chasing ancestors
And got an email from Mike
Well, me and everyone else got this email
And I could immediately see him
On his motorcycle cruising down the
Henry Hudson parkway amidst
A confetti of late autumn leaves
Serious, hilarious, bespectacled
A man who builds things with his hands
From scratch just like I cook things
From scratch - In order to know
His message was brief
He’d been summering in the Catskills
But was now at home in Brooklyn
Riding subways for the first time in six months
Eating noodles +
wondering if it would kill him
Poems for Nothing - Mimi
Robust kitten
Once you were a warrior
of the tall grasses,
dungeon keep of a thousand secrets
and rabbit skulls festooned beneath the deck
your final embrace, your trophies.
Tonight the rain lashes ceaselessly
Foghorns punctuate the river and
Even the usual army of topside rodents
Have taken cover and converged
under a slab of pockmarked Styrofoam
Waiting out the revolution patiently
Washing their paws furiously and gossiping

Halloween
I’m zooming into Halloween where things are rarely what they seem, the moon is full, the night is clear, my broomstick, cat and bat are here. I’m off to fly beyond the veil, the wraiths await so still and pale, I’ll through the woods and to the ring, where we shall dance and clap and sing, and long before the clock strikes seven we’re off to bed and back in Heaven— to daily life we hold so dear, with love and loved ones far and near — so have a happy Halloween and beam your love to those unseen, say “peace be with you spirits might, a fond farewell and sweet goodnight”.

America
There’s a tugboat on the river, there’s a body on the slab, there are three American veterans who joke and toke and blab, there’s a toddler doing handstands in a blue lace dress and socks, there are roller disco bitches blasting “Reasons” on their box. There’s an undercurrent flowing keeping everyone on edge, there’s the sorrow-furrowed brow as we peer over the ledge. Will we wobble, will we waver, we will kneecap our own kind? Will we rally, kill our savior, leave the worst of us behind? There’s a thief upon the altar and a murder in the nave, there’s the Golem we created, and a country we must save.
